Local Artist Exhibits at Gary's

Cathy McIntire's contemporary oil paintings are distinctive for their layers of rich colors and texture. The paint can be very thin and drippy in some areas and thick with lots of texture in others, creating a style that looks contemporary and adds a fresh look to traditional subjects. Birds, many types of animals, and still life are popular subject matter for her paintings, but her painterly style and emphasis on overall design more accurately define the look that makes her work unique.

McIntire knew at an early age that she wanted to be an artist. As a child she took piano lessons, and one day, while waiting for her lesson, she was drawing a picture of a horse. After looking at the sketch, her teacher told her to forget the music and concentrate on the art. In high school she was recommended for the Governor's Honors Program, and in 1973 she earned a BFA degree from Wesleyan College.

McIntire has over 30 years of professional experience in the arts. She began her career as a graphic artist and spent several years as manager for an Atlanta graphic arts studio. In 1993 she made the commitment to concentrate all her efforts on painting. Her efforts have earned her Signature status in two professional painting societies, inclusion in regional and national juried exhibitions, and participation in numerous gallery exhibits that include two solo shows. In 2003 she was named VSA arts of Georgia Artist of the Year.

Locally, McIntire is an artist member of Art of Oconee Gallery. She is also actively involved with Greensboro Arts Alliance, participating regularly in local exhibits. Two of her paintings were purchased by BankSouth for the Lake Oconee branch. . A lifelong resident of Georgia, McIntire has lived in the area since 1999 and is delighted to be involved with the arts of Greene County and surrounding areas.
