McIntire's contemporary oil paintings are distinctive for their layers of rich
colors and texture. The paint can be very thin and drippy in some areas and
thick with lots of texture in others, creating a style that looks contemporary
and adds a fresh look to traditional subjects. Birds, many types of animals,
and still life are popular subject matter for her paintings, but her painterly
style and emphasis on overall design more accurately define the look that makes
her work unique.
McIntire
knew at an early age that she wanted to be an artist. As a child she took piano
lessons, and one day, while waiting for her lesson, she was drawing a picture
of a horse. After looking at the sketch, her teacher told her to forget the
music and concentrate on the art. In high school she was recommended for the
Governor's Honors Program, and in 1973 she earned a BFA degree from

has over 30 years of professional experience in the arts. She began her career
as a graphic artist and spent several years as manager for an
